12 Traits of God and His People

By Dr. Carlton M. Truesdale

Modified from “12 Positive Personality Traits of Effective People” by Darius Foroux.

God shows us His character, so that we can be led by Him to behave with a similar character. Our goal is to explore and define our character from His character, perspective, and purpose.  Our desire should be to maximize the intersection of who we are and the character of Jesus Christ. The more that intersection is in accord with His will and His way, the union between us is optimized and sanctioned with power, love, and a sound mind.  God helps us overcome all His adversaries.

1. God is Capable (God’s People are Capable) — God does everything with a purpose. God knows He can do all things and never fail. God knows all, can do all, and be everywhere He desires. We should take our lives and work seriously. When we walk and talk with God, our path will be protected. Then our purpose and what we speak will always be the truth. Our capability will become unshackled, unchained, and become bound with its source - God; We have the choice either to be bounded by the world or to become boundless by the power of God. God’s people are becoming more Capable!

Many have been living in denial. Today, we ask that the Lord will bring you to the point of acceptance.

A loving relationship with God resembles a satisfied and well-watered life. The person whose life is fully nourished by God is also living well-watered by Him. You will never thirst for water again. Your thirsty soul will be satisfied with the love of God.

Your search for significance, belonging, fulfillment, or love is over. As a satisfied person, you will not need to search for water to quench your thirst. All your needs will come directly from the Lord. He is the Source and solid foundation upon which you stand.

“The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” Isaiah 58:11

The original plan and purpose of all mankind are still the same today.  His plan is for you to live in a state of perpetual worship. That original plan has not been aborted. The Lord told Jeremiah, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

For many, their source of wellness closely associates with their status, education, health, money, talents, beauty, creativity, inheritance, or job. These are all things that can fail and fade away. During a period of testing, these things can all vanish away. Jobs can be lost, status can suddenly change, money can vanish, people can be unfaithful, education can be futile and beauty can deceive.

Life is unpredictable to man but predetermined by God.  Therefore, your intimate connection to God as your Source places you in a position of sustenance and fulfillment regardless of what is happening around you.

Visit the forest

God is the only true Source of your existence. He is indeed the originator, sustainer, and finisher of your life. Creator God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) is the One that formed you from the dust of the ground. Then He completed mankind by blowing His Spirit into man’s earthen body.  “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being.” Genesis 2:7

The breath of life for all humankind started with God breathing His life into the body of Adam. Since all things came from God, you can only be sustained by Him. Without God in your life, you are nothing. Without Him, you are lifeless, breathless, and spiritually dead. Literally, without connection to your Source, we are like a fish out of water or a plant out of the soil.

God is your Source of Life. The book of Acts 7:50 declares, “Was it not my hand who made all these things?” God created all things seen and unseen. Everything else is considered a mere recreation by man. Inventors have used bits and pieces of creation to make life on earth more comfortable. You have been instructed to dominate the earth. Therefore, you have creative ability and the license to reinvent, recreate, resource, or even reorganize things to suit your current wants and needs. This must all be done within the parameters of God’s will.

All inventors can take great pleasure in citing God as the primary source of the ingredients or materials used to manufacture their invention. He is the originator of all created elements, components, or substances accessible to man and should be consulted first on every matter.

Baanced life

Living apart from God’s ideal will produce a lack of balance.

An imbalanced life sets you up for danger. If you are experiencing stress-related complications like physical illness, mental instability, cognitive dissonance, brokenness, or other deficiencies you need a spiritual tune-up. Do not try to take on the cares of this life without God. Be willing to give God an opportunity to cause you to prosper in all areas of your life.

Adam and Eve resided in an atmosphere called Eden. They enjoyed a life of paradise within the very presence of God.  Prayer for them was a continual, authentic dialogue with God. This interactive relationship translates into a connection to the Source of spiritual wellness.

Fellowship in the Garden of Eden was sweet for Adam and Eve. “And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed or embarrassed” Genesis 2:25 (AMP).  Their time spent in God’s presence was deeply fulfilling. They had no burdens or cares because everything they needed was already provided for their enjoyment. They existed in God’s presence, and God’s presence dwelled with them.

We have an opportunity to live in perpetual worship focused on God. That was the case until sin and evil infiltrated the atmosphere of worship and hijacked the communion between God and man.
